I don't know if I mentioned it, but Sunday when the hurricane was coming in, I got sick. Like high fever and chills kind of sick. The fever broke Sunday night, which left me with this lovely congestion and cough. Monday and Tuesday were fine: I could stay at home with public transit out, lay on my couch, and pay homage to the Kleenex gods. I was slowly getting better in the way of lingering congestion does: I feel better each day, but every time I sit for more than five minutes I leave behind a small pile of tissues. Wednesday and Thursday I went into work. I started coughing more, and was blowing my nose every 5-10 minutes instead of every 3, but I was getting better.
Then my ears started bothering me. It started with a crackling sound in my ears. Then yesterday, everything started sounding like it was under water in my left ear. About noon, my left ear very suddenly became muffled sounding. Then it had the weird underwater effect. Then it started to hurt.
That was not cool. So off to the clinic I went. The thing that annoyed me most was she kept calling it allergies. Looks lady, it's not allergies. There is nothing triggering this response in me that is not a virus or a bacteria of some sort. STOP CALLING IT THAT. But she gave me the following run down of what was going on:
1) My ears are not infected. Meaning there's no happy, fun pill I can take to make it go away.
2) There's fluid and pressure build up behind my ears due to the congestion. I shouldn't travel because pressure changes = very bad. This means no family reunion.
3) The only thing to do is wait it out and rest. I am not thrilled with this, but that's the way it is.
4) There is medicine to help make the symptoms less severe, but mostly I'm just going to have to suck it up.
Last night I had a bought of insomnia brought about by the fact that I can't breathe out my nose, I have pressure in my sinuses, and now it sounds like I'm stuck permanently in the underwater scenes of the Little Mermaid. I was going to go into work. Then my wonderful, beautiful, sweet wife drove me down to work to get my laptop because she thought it would be better to work from home. Half way back I said "Fuck it. When we get home, I'm going back to bed." So I called in to work and told them I'm not coming.
Then I went to sleep for an extra four hours. IT WAS GLORIOUS.
Still can't hear well. Still coughing and sneezing. Still feel like my sinuses are full of liquidy slime. But dammit, now at least I feel rested.
Needless to say, creativity has taken a hike as I've dealt with this mess. Which is my way of saying I haven't written anything all week. Hopefully, that will change once I get through this. And if I never see another box of tissues again, it will be too soon.
PS: Kira says "Hi" to everyone. Literary cat is literary. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

I felt terrible all day long from a mixture of Daylight Saving Time and insomnia. I stay ed at home and laid on the sofa most of the day. I was not real thrilled. My cats, on the other hand, have thought today was the best day ever as I was still most of the day and they could lay on/beside me for pettings.
Like death (without the option of cake)
Friday, January 13th, 2012 11:19 amSince I still have some sick leave left and I feel like death, I am heading home. You know you are sick when the concrete bench looks like good place to go to sleep.
Edit: Posted before I finished and of course, I couldn't figure out how to edit it on my phone. So this had to wait till I was actually home instead of just heading there.

Home again, home again
Friday, February 11th, 2011 11:11 amI worked this morning from home, said "No more" after the phone meeting, and took the rest of the day off. Now I am sitting on my couch, with a kitty on my feet. This is no different from this morning except that I am not doing work now. Yeah!
Maybe I'll do some more typing up of stuff from my notebooks. Then I can post some more bits and pieces for people to enjoy. :)

Definitely a stay in kind of night
Thursday, February 10th, 2011 05:35 pmAfter an afternoon of working from home because I feel like death warmed over followed up by a rousing episode of
miome attempting to set the kitchen on fire, we have decided that it is best for everyone if we just order Chinese tonight and stay indoors.
You know how I'd like to start off 2011?

Short version: I've swung back from thinking that I had food poisoning of some sort back to the theory that I have some stomach bug.

In a nutshell
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 05:36 pmMy entire day:
- Get up out of bed
- Stay upright for about two hours
- Get really sleepy/sick feeling
- Go back to bed for three hours
- Sleep
- Repeat
I didn't even bother changing into actual clothes: just took a shower and changed into clean pajamas during one of my awake spells. Luckily, with a nice dose of Pepto, I was able to keep everything I ate down. This included ginger ale, two piece of bread with dried cranberries in it, and a bowl of soup. Yum-yum.
I think I've been awake for about five of the last twelve hours. Sleeping tonight is going to be fun. Not.

What is my life?
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 07:09 amOnly I would get up feeling like death warmed over, go to use the electronic thermometer, and find that it has somehow set itself to degrees Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. I don't know how it reset itself. It's got only ONE BUTTON. I don't know how to set it back and the manual, such as it was, is long gone. Which means that I'm sitting here doing math before dawn to figure out if I'm running a fever.
The answer, but the way, is maybe. My temperature 99.7 (37.6 C), which is just short of actually being classified as a fever but warmer than why my normal temp. of 98.2. Not that I have any doubt I'm sick. The all over ache and bleck feeling was my first clue. It's just nice to have confirmation.
As always, my cats have decided that since I'm stationary and warm, I am here solely for their pettings and nap time.

A week of mondays
Friday, September 10th, 2010 07:32 pmWell, this week has been extremely busy at work, so I haven't had time to post at all. And then today, I got sick and had to come home from work. Worked another two hours, crashed, and slept. Over time is really draining. I was hoping not to work this weekend, but alas, that is not the case. ;_;
I have an eye appointment tomorrow to finally get my glasses replaced. Thank goodness. This pair is four years old and has been repaired twice. I need new glasses. Hopefully I will feel up going.
And now, I am going to enjoy my night and not worry about work. The end.

Dear couple next door,
I'm really thrilled you have an active sex life and that you are comfortable enough to laugh with each other in bed. However, 2:30am is not a good time to have loud and - given that you tried and cracked up laughing four times, with only a minimum of headboard hitting the wall sounds - unfulfilling sex in a hotel. The only thing that kept me from banging on the wall was the fact that I saw a just married couple in the hotel lobby, and even I am not mean enough to ruin someone's honeymoon night. Just... 2:30am? Really? And if you simply must give into the urge, can you leave out the part where you yell "Oh baby!" exactly three times at the beginning? People are trying to sleep. And I am not a happy camper this morning.
No love,
Tsaiko

I want to sleep so bad. So very bad. But if I am to have any hope of functioning tomorrow at work, I can't have another night like last night where I only slept for like four hours. I want to sleeeeeep.
EDIT: How did I miss this article when it first came out? I AM FALLING DOWN ON THE JOB. Gay Parties in New York Attract the Superhero Crowd

I got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night and feel like a large truck hit me this morning. So I'm calling in sick and working some hours from home. I have got to get some stuff done, but once that's complete, I'm going to just lay around my house with the kitties on me.
Also, my throat is all gunky.
Bleck.

Tsaiko & Miome Theater: 2 acts
Monday, January 18th, 2010 04:22 pmBTW, Miome has strep throat and is now on antibiotics. That's the only background you're getting for this gem.
Miome: The only way I'd be interested in sex is if a guy's penis was covered in Robitussin.
And there's the one:
Miome: I really like the Widow Maker story.
Tsaiko: Yeah!
Miome: Except you tagged it as "window maker."
Tsaiko: Oh son of a...
Going to change that right now.
