Adorable kids I have seen this trip so far:

The little boy who upon seeing the koi in the pond yelled “FISH!” and ran up to the edge. The koi, upon seeing the kid, though they were going to get fed and swam quickly up to him. The boy then decided the fish were too scary, ran behind his dad’s legs, and yelled “TOO BIG! BIG FISH!” Dad tried to coax him to the pond. Kid was having none of it. To be fair, some of those koi were longer than my arm so I don’t really blame him.

The little Japanese boy on the beach with a pink intertube who convinced his mom to take him into deeper water where the waves were. When he was there he started singing what I assume was a Pokemon theme (it was the only word I recognized) in Japanese. Every time mom tried to go into shallower water he’d stop singing, ask her to go deeper, and then start right back on the Pokemon theme.

The little girl who couldn’t have been more than five gently herding the pigeons out of the hotel lobby while her mom held the automatic door open for them. Every time one would go out she’d tell it “Good bird.” Before going to herd the next one out. These birds frequently go in and out when people do, but I don’t think the little girl realized that. She was determined to save them.

My flight out of Hawaii is delayed (of course). I'm going to miss my connection in Los Angeles.

I WANNA GO HOOOOOOOME.

I have to admit, I am more impressed with the island of Hawaii than Oahu. But mostly that's because Hawaii still has active volcanoes. Which are awesome. I got to hike along the rim of Kilauea. I couldn't go into the crater itself because the National Park service had it closed due to venting gasses, including toxic gas. No thank you. I'll watch from a distance. I took lots and lots of mental notes for the rewrite of Dragon of Blood and Fire, because I think I want to expand on that universe more. It's an interesting universe, but you don't see enough of it in the stories. Before I can do the rewrite, I really need finish up the first draft though. Hrm.

I also have about 5 pages of notes and drawings for the Hawaiian dragon story. I started writing it on the trip here (during that 16 hour flight from hell, oh god, why do I have to do that again?) and strangely enough, I think it's going to be in a very similar format as the Dragon of Blood and Fire. That's probably why it reminded me of that story. It's nice to finally start it, because I've had the idea for the story for almost two years now (since I was last out in Hawaii). But I think I'm going to get all my ideas down on paper, because I'm not sure I want to come back out here. Maybe with

miome, but that's the only way.

Now to do some writing.

I am in Hawaii. It is 5:30am here, but I'm up because my body is convinced it's 11:30am. I was hoping that by staying up almost 24 hours yesterday I'd reset my internal clock, but no such luck. I found grabbed a notebook to write on the plane (which I didn't do much of, because both my seat mates were nosy), and discovered some interesting bits I had forgotten I'd written. I also started writing what I'm calling the Hawaiian dragon story until I have a better name for it. Since I have a free time today, I'm going to go do some research by sight seeing. :D

Funny things that I saw while traveling:

- Small Chinese boy of about 5-6 singing the line "Secret Asian man" over and over again in the airport. Mom did not look happy, but Dad was doing his best not to laugh. I wonder who taught him that?

- Old lady on the trip out who brought her lunch on the plane, because the food on the plan was so full of salt and preservatives. She then pulled out a huge slab of SPAM and started eating that along with her healthy lunch of bananas, yogurt, granola, and dried fruit. o_O
