I went to Walgreen's today to pick up some diet cokes and, because it's after Thanksgiving, they are playing Christmas music.

Confession time: I do not like Christmas music. I use to love it. Then I worked in an office where the owner would put turn it to a station that would play non-stop Christmas music starting on Nov. 1st. Eight hours a day. Forty hours a week. Two months straight every year. The bulk of the music was the same 20-30 songs sung by different artists, with an occasional unusual song like Christmas in Sarajevo or the Grinch song. My crowning achievement was getting them to play the Hawaiian Christmas song just to listen to something different. How bad was it? When the owner switched it to a country station, I rejoiced, and I do not like country music.

Which is to say, as much as I would love to ignore Christmas music, I can't.

So imagine my surprise when I hear a Christmas song playing in the Walgreens that I don't recognize. The lyrics are hard to understand until it gets to the chorus. I freeze in the middle of Walgreens because I swear that it sounds like the woman over the speakers is singing about lusty Santa.

What. The. Fuck.

It takes me way, way too long to glean from the rest of the lyrics that the woman must be saying "Must be Santa." Not lusty Santa. Those were a few brain breaking moments that I wish had never occurred.

despite what the recipe says, these sugar cookies were not soft after an hour or two. They weren't as crispy as some cookies I've had though, so I guess that counts.. They were also some of the best lemon cookies I'd had. The only change I made in the recipe was to halve in (I did not need 3.5 dozen cookies), and to add a few drops of lemon extract to the sugar I rolled the dough in before baking.

Soft Lemon Sugar Cookies.

Okay, between hurricane, death plague, and [livejournal.com profile] miome getting the death plague I have done 0% of my Secret Santa shopping. I am so far behind! But all is not lost. I am determined to catch up this weekend (mostly because I will be traveling next week so won't be able to do it then).

I can do this. *insert determined music here*

I am currently sitting on my sofa typing this on my TV. [livejournal.com profile] miome got me a computer to hook up to our very large TV so that I can play games. My netbook does not have enough firepower to play games. This thing? Oh hell yes. We got back from Miome's parents today and are looking forward to a few days of home improvement projects. Our kitties are thrilled to be home.

Glad to see everyone had a good time. Oh man, I love this keyboard. Maybe this is just what I need to start writing again. So very nice.

We were in a restaurant eating, when The Little Drummer Boy came on. I wasn't paying much attention, but obviously the song was getting on [livejournal.com profile] miome's nerves. Right in the middle of our conversation, she busted out this line

Miome: Because Lord knows that's just what a newborn wants. A drum solo.
Tsaiko: *cracks up laughing* Now I'm picturing a rocker doing a drum solo for baby Jesus.
Miome: I think what annoys me most if the type of drum.
Tsaiko: Oh?
Miome: They always show... oh what is it called? It's the drum with wooden sticks and the sharp sound. A timpani?
Tsaiko: *snerk* Not a timpani. You mean a snare drum.
Miome: Yes, a snare. Like a kid wants to hear that. *pause* So what is a timpani drum?
Tsaiko: It's a big kettledrum. Like in the theme of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Miome: I was not even close to being right.
Tsaiko: Now I kind of want to hear a version of The Little Drummer Boy, only with a timpani drum instead of a snare.

You can tell which of us was a band geek and which of us was not. :D

I have a received my Secret Santa package from a Mr. (or Ms.) Hey! Stop looking here!. I am pleased.

And of course, my cats have already sniffed and jumped on top of it. As if there are not already a ton of boxes for them to sit on top of. -_-

8 inches of snow does not make for fun driving.

We made it back though.

Every time I read this I crack up laughing. My favorite is the kitty clawed chair leaking sprinkles.

I am so close to being done with Christmas shopping. SO CLOSE.

My mother is on the internet.

You guys just don't understand.

My mother is on the internet. I am trying to direct her to safe(r) sites like Facebook with such advice as "Only friend people you know" and "Do not click every link that shows up" as opposed to letting her computer get eaten by something she caught from a wild troll while she is roaming the internet at large. Unfortunately, this means I was showing her stuff using my laptop. She then took this as permission to ask me what I was doing or to look over my shoulder whenever I was on said laptop. So I had to stick to relatively safe sites, which did not include Livejournal. I also could not do stuff like write gay porn. Needless to say, I will not be making my Nov. goal for words.

So I'll just shift that to December and see how much I can get done for that month. Maybe I'll even finish something. Now that my mother has headed home, maybe I'll get something done today. Though more likely, I'll spend most of it on the internet ordering stuff on-line for Christmas.

At least when I get home tomorrow, I'll be able to write.

I think we've found three of the modern biblical disasters. These include:

- 2ft of snow
- fire
- five hour plane delay (getting into Atlanta at 3am is fun. Not.)

Luckily the rain of frogs never showed. Maybe that order was canceled, kind of like my sister's Christmas present. However, the actual visit was awesome. My mom has finally seemed to come to terms with that fact that I am in love with Miome and no, this is not a phase. That is good.

This is all capped by the fact that I am writing a Young Avengers AU that is right now titled "Teddy is a Therapy Vampire."

I don't even know folks.

This video is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. And yet it somehow manages to exactly capture how I feel about the damn Christmas Shoes song.

I'm sorry, but three years of listening to 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week of non-stop Christmas music for over two months each year has just killed any love I have for 99.9% of Christmas music.

I WANTS THEM!

I just added as many of the Time Life Enchanted World Series as I could find to my Amazon wishlist. I loved these books. I have a used copy of the Dragons one that someone gave me as a gift. The pictures and stories in them are awesome. Of course, they are all out of print, but that's even better because most of the copies can be bought on the cheap. I see a birthday gift to myself!

I'm so glad someone reminded me of their existence.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from Tsaiko, Miome, the cats, and our tree topper, Meyer the lobster.
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (silly love)
I managed to get myself with the scissors while wrapping the last of the gifts. I now have a 5 inch long scratch up the under side of my arm. Lovely.

I'd put a tag on this gift, but I'm too afraid I would somehow manage to stab myself with the pen.

Sigh... no one believes me when I say for me, wrapping gifts is hazardous occupation.

At least [livejournal.com profile] miome will appreciate the gift.

Finally

The last of the Christmas gifts I'm sending out are packed up.

OH THANK GOODNESS THIS WILL SOON BE DONE.

Yay packages!

[livejournal.com profile] skylark97 I got your package today! Don't worry about having to get men's shoes. I have a hard enough time getting shoes my size. I didn't expect you to have any more luck, but you did manage to find shoes that fit. I love the socks and I love the notebooks. Thank you!

I also got a card from [livejournal.com profile] paisleyavenger. It's gorgeous.

Today was spent wrapping and shipping packages for my family. I am pooped. And still not done. o_O
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (whee)
Gah, I am so tired. Do not think that I'll get any writing done. I didn't sleep well last night and it all caught up to me at once.

[livejournal.com profile] silverthunder, I got your card. Thank you!
[livejournal.com profile] skuldchan, I got your card as well. Thank you!

I also got a card from my sister and her husband. Not only did it have a picture of them, but it also came with a great picture of me with their English bulldog Charles. I am amused.
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (gourd!)
I have two more Christmas cards to write and then I shall be DONE!

I have also already found out one of my grades for class. I got an A in statistics, meaning that my GPA for my graduate program continues to be a 4.0 (meaning I've got the highest marks you can get for all the classes I've taken in my program, for those who don't know the US's grading system). Since I do not expect to get anything but an A in Adv. Remote Sensing and all I have left is thesis, I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep that GPA.

I have no idea if my university will put summa cum laude on my degree. I know I graduated magna cum laude with my undergrad.

Also, I just had to share this paragraph from the Wikipedia article on honors:

A fourth distinction, egregia cum laude, "with outstanding praise", has occasionally appeared: it was created to recognize students who earned the same grade point average required for the summa honor, but did so while pursuing a more rigorous honors curriculum. One of Fordham University's student newspapers translated this as "with hysterical praise", and so the university dropped the distinction and awards such degrees with summa honors, and a notation In cursu honorum, "in the honors course". This latter notation is used by some other schools as well.

I don't know about you, but I would absolutely love to graduate with hysterical praise. XD

OMG UNICORNS!

I got my Secret Santa package today (and obviously I fail at this whole "secret" thing because the package I sent out had my name all over it -_-). And since other people had already opened their package, I had to open mine. It was only fair.

OMG UNICORNS! I hadn't realized that Michael Green had put out an updated book with more drawings of unicorns, but he has, AND NOW I HAVE IT. I am thrilled. I didn't even know he was putting something new out which is strange because usually I keep an eye out for his stuff. I love his drawings. They are so pretty.

I also have a gorgeous unicorn print which I need to go buy a frame for so I can put it up on my wall. EEEEEEEEE!

Thank you!

PS - I told you I act like a five year old over unicorn. ^^

Not amused

Today I discovered that you cannot ship certain packages from the automatic kiosk. Looks like I'll be trekking over to the campus post office tomorrow to get these things off. I did manage to get Christmas stamps so I have my first batch of cards ready to go out. Yeah me!

I probably should wrap at least one more present tonight, but I don't wanna.

Fail or win?

I'm having to ship my Secret Santa present(s) in two packages because of the size.

Er...

In other news, I still suck at wrapping. This is why I love gift bags and gift boxes. That way no one can see how truly terrible my wrapping skills are. In good news, one of [livejournal.com profile] miome's gifts is wrapped and pretty up under our tree. Yeah!

I'm going to rest a while and then make myself finish my take-home exam like I intended to do yesterday.

New flash!

Despite what some people might tell you, the reason we have a lobster on our Christmas tree is not because he was boiled for our sins.

Snow?

First day I'm back in Indiana, and there's at least an inch of snow on the ground. [livejournal.com profile] miome assures me it was sunny and mild while I was gone. I'm not sure I believe her.

In other news, our Christmas tree is up though it isn't decorated except for the lobster on top of it. We will probably be putting all the ornaments on sometime today or possibly next weekend.

I have part of my secret Santa's gift bought. Now I just need to find some other things to get him/her.

Today I need to at the very least get some of the Christmas cards done so I can get them out tomorrow.

Life is good, if busy.

Who am I?
