The good news is the defense went well!

The bad news is my committee wants another set of revisions to my thesis before they'll sign off on it. So I won't be graduating this month. I have, however, made them commit to getting me out by October. I flat out told them that I was losing jobs because employers were not talking to me without a firm graduation date. I laid it out and made them say yes to have this all done by October 10th. I am holding them to it.

Also, I totally think they should add Captain America to the "It's a Small World" ride. He'll represent the US and start beating people over the head with his shield when that song gets stuck in his head.

Okay, completed all my slides. I need to fix the two maps that ArcGIS screwed up. I also need to call the bindery and find out how many characters can fit on the spine because there is no way the full title of my thesis is going to work and the shortened title needs to be approved. I want that to be done today.

Still discovering little things wrong with thesis that need to be fixed. I swear this will happen until I turn the damn thing in. Heck, even after that. I'll open this thing five years from now and on the first page I start reading will find a typo. That is always the way.

Three hours and counting.

EDIT: Maps fixed. Bindery has been contacted. Thesis has been printed and the changes marked (also noticed a few mistakes. Sigh).

SO CLOSE.

I have to boil down my entire thesis into a 30 minute presentation. Oh and give it tomorrow at noon.

Let the hysterical laughter commence!
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (biwa)
Fifteen minutes before I need to set up the conference room and my committee chair emails me that I'm going to have to do set-up by myself and that he'll try his best to get there in time to see the presentation.

ARRRRRRRRRRGH!

I iz snazzy!

I'm all dressed up for the presentation today. Of course, my stomach is in knots. Thanks IBS! At least I finished the presentation with hours to spare. Must be getting responsible in my old age.

Also my feet are cold. Why? Because once again maintenance has cranked up the AC to Arctic levels. And today isn't that warm to begin with (a high in the 60s in June? WTF Indiana?)

Damn the typos!

I am reading back through my thesis proposal and am finding typos left and right. WTF? My adviser has gone through it and I've read through it twice. How did we both miss these things? Are they multiplying while I'm not looking or something? ARGH.

On a more positive note, my presentation went from having three slides to having 15, with another 3 planned. Two more days and counting.

The survey says...

Just about everyone says that the werewolf smut is "A++, must continue" material so I will endeavor to work on it this week. The story is about as close to PWP as I tend to get, which will be a nice change from starting/working on anything plot driven. I basically started writing it because I went on a werewolf reading glut and was disappointed in what I was finding. Which of course makes me want to write that.

I'm seriously considering looking up wing sex stories just to see if that will inspire anything. After the werewolf one is done of course.

I also have my thesis proposal presentation on Wednesday. Which means I desperately need to put it together today and tomorrow. Yeah for procrastination!

Finally, for the first time in a month I have come into the office and not been cold. Everyone in this area called and complained on Thursday about the temperature. It seems to have worked. Ahhh... blessed comfort.

Lovely

Guess where I went today to do my presentation? -_-

Presentation today for some of the other people at the place funding my thesis research. Wish me luck!

I hope this is the last presentation because I would like to, oh I don't know, actually finish my thesis work instead of having to prepare for these.

Meeting on my thesis work today with the funding people. I was fine until this morning at which point I was nervous as hell. I don't know if I've included too much or not enough information in my slides. AHHHHH!

Done!

Poster presentation is over. There was a terrifying moment when I realized that one of the people talking with me about my poster was a guy who I'm siting in my thesis. Dammit, I didn't want people who understand what I'm doing reading that thing! Luckily, he was very, very nice. I was kind of overshadowed by the guy who set up near me. His poster topic? "The Spatial Distribution of the Seven Deadly Sins in America." I did manage to snag a CD of the work with all the awesome maps. I might see if I can find a copy of the study on-line to share. It's really interesting.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Now that that's over, I can actually enjoy the rest of my week in Las Vegas.

My poster presentation is today at 1pm.

Wish me luck!

Why yes mind, I love being woken at 5:30am in the morning by a dream where I missed the flights to my conference because I thought they left on Sunday and instead they left on Saturday. Way to make me paranoid.

*double checks her tickets*

Nope. Still flying out on Sunday. Thanks for the added dose of stress though. -_-

EDIT: My cat is all "I see you have a hand and are attempting to type on the computer. Let me sit on it." Kitties make everything better. Except for maybe the ability to type with both hands.

RAAAAAAGE!

The guy up in the lab completely didn't read the email I sent him about printing my poster. He just assumed it was one of my fellow graduate student's poster. So not only did he set it to print on the wrong paper (meaning I can't make notes on it like I wanted to), he also set it to the wrong size and the wrong print quality. So now it's not only compressed, but the ink is smeared all over the glossy paper I didn't want him to use.

Then, he had the nerve to say "I don't understand why you didn't make the poster in Power Point." BECAUSE IT'S A SHITTY PIECE OF SOFTWARE THAT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE USED TO MAKE POSTERS YOU JACK ASS.

SON OF A BITCH.

Lazy weekend

tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (fireflies)
I totally should have worked on my poster presentation this weekend. I didn't. Instead I played games, read fanfiction, worked on personal projects, wrote stories, and watched TV. I also did laundry and aired out some of the linens. Spring is definitely in the air. Why can't it be like this for the rest of the week instead of turning cold again on Wednesday?

Oh well. I'm going to be in Las Vegas in one week.

I have found that the closer it gets to the conference and the more conferences I go to in general, the funnier this video becomes.

Success?

I gave the presentation for my part-time job today. Everyone told me it went well, but I'm still unsure of whether it went well or if people were being nice. Sigh. Also my laptop decided to not play nice with the wireless or vice versa. Anyway, something horked but I did manage to work around it.

Also, my uterus has the worse timing ever. -_-

Wrote one werewolf drabble and am going to see if I can get another done tonight. I'm contemplating starting a sequel. This is all the fault of you people asking about Gene and Jesse's adopted kids. My goal is to do at least one a day. So if I don't do another tonight, I'll have at least completed my goal.

[livejournal.com profile] miome has been fighting illness since last week. She had sore throat, coughing, mucus, fever, chills, etc. Since this has gone on for awhile, she called up a health line, told her her symptoms, and asked the nurse practitioner for advice.

The nurse practitioner said "You should see a physician within 24 hours." in a tone of voice that Miome said sounded more like "You should have seen a physician 24 hours ago."

So off to a clinic we went. Waited forever, but finally got to see someone. The good news is that she doesn't have pneumonia. The bad news is that she has strep. Which means that there's a chance that I might have strep. And since I don't exhibit sore throat when I get strep, I might have it and not realize it. The clinic was out of strep cultures (obviously, strep is going around o_O).

We're going to keep an eye on me over the next few days. If I develop a fever or start getting really tired (I laughed at this, because seriously, the time change just happened and Miome's coughing kept me up all last night) over the next few days, I'll go get a culture done.

Needless to say, Miome is at home. I'm at home because I went with her to the clinic and because I did not sleep well last night.

Tomorrow is my presentation. I'm going to be working on that all afternoon.

Sigh...
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (love/peace)
So when I'm not working on my thesis, I'm doing stuff for my job. I went down to attend a meeting in the office as opposed to working remotely, which is what I often do. As soon as I got there, I promptly broke ArcGIS. Two 1/2 hours later they managed to fix it. Good times.

While this was going on, I had my employee review with my manager. Not only did I get an excellent review, but my manager also put in for a substantial pay increase. How much? About a $2.50 an hour pay increase. WOO! That will be nice when it goes through.

I am getting ready to start another project. I thought at first I wouldn't like project work, but I actually find the beginning-middle-endness of it rather soothing. If I get involved in something I don't particularly like (OMG, no more inventorying), I just have to wait a few months for something else to come along. I don't want to ever be a contract worker, but I like this aspect of it. I also like the working on my own part though I still prefer having a strong manager with definite goals.

Finally, I will be doing a presentation on GIS for the entire division in March. They really want to start incorporating it more into what they do with different projects. The problem is, they don't really realize what it can do and how it can help. This is going to be interesting. Especially since I've already had to explain to people the difference between a point, a line, and a polygon more than once. -_-
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (love/peace)
Started my period just a few hours before my poster presentation. Surprise! Fucking ovaries.

Poster presentation went awesome. I was able to talk to a lot of people including a professor from another University who gave me lots of good advice and wanted to know when/where I was going to publish my research since he was interested in a similar topic. EEEE! It's so nice when someone actually cares about your research.

My fellow graduate students are awesome. They came down to support me, bought me dinner, and gave me gas money.

I have 46 lbs of books! These are all books I already owned but were at my mom's house in NC. Now they are here. The sad thing is, I didn't even clean off all my book shelves and I almost filled the box. I also managed to send a bunch of my comic cards (I was a collector of them back in the early 90's) to myself as well. So many books that I want to reread. I can't wait.

I managed to roll out of bed last night. See [livejournal.com profile] miome has been out of town. A lot of time in my sleep, I'll roll towards her when I get cold. Well last night, I did that only she wasn't there. So I kept rolling and rolling until I hit the floor. When I told her this she laughed at me. UNLOVED.

I have been reading the first decent gay-romance ebook today that I have read. It's not great by a long shot, but I don't feel like stopping in the middle of it. That's a small miracle. This is much better than the one book I read where the beginning and ending were good and the middle was terrible. It was like expecting to bite into a jelly-filled donut and finding that you have nothing. Not even donut... just a hole. I'm still amazed at how the author managed to do that.

Miome is coming home tonight. I am happy. ^^

Dear brain,

Giving me a dream about giving a poster presentation and waking me up from a sound sleep at 3am on the day of my poster presentation? NOT COOL.

No love,
Tsaiko

I also had a dream where I went to church. I haven't been inside a church in years. I was wearing a red dress with a hood. We got to the part where we opened the hymnal to start to sing and I swear, this was the most bawdy (and not baudy, lol, been hanging around too with computer geeks) hymnal ever. I think the preacher announced three songs and someone beside me sighed "We always sing the same songs." Flipping through I realized that these were the only three songs in the hymnal that did not innuendo all over the place. The only hymn whose name I can really remember is something about spreading gay through the world with the help of a mare. I think the lyrics were even worse. Poor preacher probably almost had a heart attack the first time he opened one of those hymnals. XD

Dear fellow students,

Yes, I am in fact playing games in a computer lab that is full.

I am also waiting for a 57" x 36" poster to print so that I can do a professional poster presentation on Friday. Until it comes out complete and intact from the printer, my butt is staying in this chair except when I get up to hover over the printer praying to any deity that will listen that everything comes out all right. Getting huffy with me will not make me leave. I have as much right to use this lab as you do.

No love,
Tsaiko

I have a poster presentation at a regional meeting on Friday. I completed all the revisions to my poster this morning. All that's left is to print it out, something which I plan on doing on Thursday since I'll be up in the lab anyway for my remote sensing class. Now I just need to not work myself up into a nervous fit before the presentation. Luckily, doing a poster doesn't require me to actually get up in front of a group of people and speak. All I have to do is stand next to it for a couple of hours and answer questions.

I'm not going to subject you all to the poster itself. Trust me, I'd be able to see all your eyes glazing over from over the internet. XD

I can't believe the end of the semester is coming up so quickly. I only have like three more classes and then it's over. Then all I have left to get my Master's is my thesis work. Wow. I'm both excited and nervous about it.

I told my mom I might not ever get a PhD. She wanted to know why. "I graduated with my Bacherlor's during the tech bust. I'm getting my Master's just as they're talking about another depression. If I try to graduate with a PhD, I'll take the whole economy down!"

Short straw

Well crud. I drew the short straw for that conference. My poster session is from 3:30-5:15pm on a Friday. Yeah, like anyone's going to go to that session. -_-
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (whee)
I just registered to give a poster presentation at the regional meeting for one of the big professional organizations I'm a member of. I'm kind of flailing because a) I've never done this before, 2) I had to write a 200 word abstract in like 15 minutes because I waited to the last day to register, #) my adviser is MIA because he's on sabbatical so I can't get his help on any of this, and 3) I'm going to be traveling before and after this meeting meaning little time to prepare.

Even better, I have to get put an abstract and everything together to do another poster presentation in April at the big country wide meeting also without my adviser's help.

FLAIL.

I survived!

Thank you to all the people who wished me luck. The poster session went well (though seriously, why is it you can go over and over a poster on a computer screen and as soon as you print it you find like five errors?). My feet are still killing me from yesterday.

Five days till I am done with exams and free. Only two exams, a revised poster, and the last three pages of a term paper stand in my way.

Soon I will be able to write again. Soon I will be able to crochet. Soon I will once again have free time. SOON.

Who am I?
