Story research has me combing through Medieval tax records (think 1300s) to find actual names from time period. One thing I have discovered is that about 50% of the men from that time were named John. I am not even joking about that. It's kind of sadly ridiculous.

"My name is John. This is my father, John, my brother, John, and my cousin John, my Uncle, John..."

Note to self: Next time you are writing in the STFU universe and El makes an appearance have him wearing the following T-shirt: features a bunk bed on it and reads "Top or Bottom? Your call."

Because really, that is just too perfect not to include.

I have been working on the Desert Bride story all afternoon. I finally managed to finish the first part and now only have two more parts to go before where I started writing this thing connects with the actual beginning of the story. This is why I try to start at the beginning. So I don't have to go back and write things out of order. Less confusion that way.

I am also having the hardest time remembering that Amenan's country (loosely based on Egypt) is east of the country where Osmond's sister is to wed. That country, BTW, is loosely based on Tunisia (not exactly, I'm mixing and matching my cultures which I'm allowed to do because it's my damn story). For some reason I keep wanting to stick Tunisia off in the Arabic pennisula and keep saying Egypt is west of it. I must have corrected myself about half a dozen times in this story already.

Let's not even talk about the sheer number of plot holes I've had to spackle over. It's not pretty. This is what I get for just writing and not actually working out the plot before hand. I'm hoping that does not come back to bite me in the end. Especially since I only have the vaguest of notions of where this is going.

I'm sad to say I know more of what happens to Nankah after this story finishes than I do about what happens to Osmond and Amenan. Sigh... it's hard to believe she was the character I came up with first.

Now back to work. I'm hoping to keep updating this thing up until I have to eat dinner and go to class.

Dear Ancient Egypt,

Please do not give me ideas for mpreg. Norse mythology already has that covered.

Hugs and kisses,
Tsaiko

PS - Especially do not give me ideas for mpreg involving Set. He is my second favorite Egyptian god. If I find a story of Anubis getting knocked up, it will be all over and I will be forced to write.

Stories like this one are how I like to learn about different cultures when I'm including bits and pieces of them in my stories. It's musing and interesting and informative. Also, I now know what the lesbian equivalent on seme/uke is. XD

A good day

A good day is one where I get to flex my geology muscles and help someone figure out how to make the evil bad guy from their NaNoWriMo novel get a volcano to erupt and try to take out the world.

It's very hard to type when you're eyes are watering. Why are my eyes watering? Because I just cut up an entire onion to go in the dehydrator. Ugh. My eyes are swollen feeling. I can tell. It's awful.

Last night I decided to take some time off of writing, specifically the [livejournal.com profile] snail_mail_porn story. Only I somehow managed to do about three hours worth of research for another story instead. One of the things I was researching were version of the St. George and the Dragon story (I'm going to turn this yaoi and write this. I can already tell. My fate is sealed once I start getting ideas).

One of the version is a mid 16th century ballad that I found on Google books ♥. Now in the 16th century, spelling was not at its high point. I wasn't too surprised at the "dye" instead of "die" or "suckt" instead of "sucked." (My mind just went some place it really shouldn't have...) But I was not expecting the absolute best unconventional spelling I have come across in quite some time.

Asswage.

After I stopped laughing hysterically, I was finally able to figure out that the correct spelling was supposed to be "assuage." Even now I'm giggling. Asswage. That would be like the best damn name for a sword.

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] miome will be coming to Indianapolis for good either tomorrow or Monday. I am trying not to think too hard on this because I will start alternately doing to the happy dance and flailing in worry. So... not thinking. Writing instead.

My girlfriend, my kitties, and my bed. Soon I shall be reunited with each. Well, the bed will take longer since the moving company said it will be here between the 1st and the 8th of August. -_-

Dear self,

If you do several hours of research on the mating habits of penguins in order to write penguin yaoi, it usually behooves you to bookmark those sites to you don't have to repeat your efforts. Especially since you have a lovely folder in your bookmarks labeled "Story Research" for just such an occasion.

Do not let this happen again.

No love,
Tsaiko

EDIT: One of these days, I'm going to be at an anime convention or even worse, a NaNoWriMo meeting and someone is going to come up to me and say "Tsaiko... HEY! You're that chick who wrote tomato yaoi." At that point, I'll have either won or failed at the internetz. I'm not sure which.

Who am I?
