Irony is the Shackles of Youth

Picture if you will a business woman - conservative dress suit in charcoal gray with a off-white camisole, sensible pumps, full make-up, hair in a neat bun - riding the train home with a bored look on her face. In her lap is a bag in bright pink with the outline of voluptuous lady in black. There are two strategically placed tassles on the lady's breasts and the phrase "SHAKE YOUR TASSLES" in bold, block letters.

I see the strangest things on the ride home sometimes.

In other news, somehow we went from "slight chance of rain" to "1/2 - 1 in of snow falling all afternoon." It was pretty and, considering it was 65F on Saturday, not sticking too much. Which is good because as owner of a house, I am responsible for shoveling the sidewalks in front of it. The last thing I want to do is get up at 5am to shovel snow.

Also, I would be writing more, but every time I sit down on the couch I wind up with two cats. It's very, very hard to write around cats. Nadia loves the fact that I don't have a laptop in my lap any more - just a keyboard. She especially enjoys finding the perfect way to sit to make typing the most awkward.

She's not on my lap now, so maybe I'll be able to write a bit. I haven't moved any of my stories over to this computer because I don't have MS Word. I haven't installed MS Word because I'm going to be upgrading from Vista (Boo! Hiss!) to Windows 7 at some point and I don't want to have to install it twice. Oh the first world problems. What this boils down to is I can only work on stuff I have on Google docs, which is not much. I shall try to find something that I feel can be relayed to the general public (and not the general pubic like I first typed).

Imagine if you will the following scene:

There is a woman standing on the platform of the Metro station. Her hair is neatly styled and she is wearing a cream colored knitted shell covered by a black business jacket with matching knee-length skirt. The woman has neutral hose on and a pair of sensible black heels. She's got full make-up on, but in restrained, natural colors, and crisp red nails that obviously came from a salon. A small, black leather hand bag hangs from her shoulder. In one hand she is holding a smartphone, which she is texting on at a speedy pace. In her other hand, she is holding... a toilet plunger.

I could not make this stuff up if I tried.

I have got to start bringing a notebook on the Metro, if for no other reason than to write about the people I see on it. People I have noted on the train include:

- The little old lady wearing a pink dress, white cardigan, giant handbag, and a necklace made out of beads and giant carnivore (tiger?) teeth. It just seems like there's a story there.
- A lady whose hair was dyed a lovely shade of peach, with peachy-gold highlights.
- A blonde woman in her early 20's with a violet purple coat and pumpkin orange handbag talking on her phone while a African-American guy about her age with dread locks, baggy pants and a hoody kept stealing glances at her, before ducking his head and blushing.
- The gentleman who on Halloween was wearing a classically dark business suit with a giant jeweled spider pinned to his lapel.
