So the publisher that I put my story out through, LessthanThreePress, is shutting down. They were a really nice publisher with good terms that cared about their authors. I'm sad to see it go. All the rights to my story returned to me and I'll get the last royalty payment in September. Now I'm faced with a choice: do I put my story up on Amazon as self-published? It's got the benefit of several rounds of editing with an editor. But... I'd probably have to format it and design a new cover. I am waffling.

Work on myUndertale fanfic continues. I am taking a break between arcs. Only I realized I'm going on vacation right in the middle of the next arc. Oops? I am definitely not posting while on vacation. Given how things usually go, I doubt I'll even be writing.

Which reminds me, I need to back-up my laptop at some point. It's begun to do a worrying thing where it randomly restarts while in sleep mode. Right now it happens about once a weekish, but it makes me worry. I hate looking for new laptops. Mostly because what I consider the most important features (such as keyboard placement that doesn't cause wrist strain or dig into my arms while typing in bed), are not what manufacturers consider the most important features. I've not had good luck ordering laptops via the web, but at the same time, I never can find a laptop with the computing power I want in stores. Ugh.

Not again...

Some of you who followed me since LJ might remember I had an issue with my email address. Basically, it boiled down to some lady in Indiana (which was weird, because when it started, I lived in Indiana) had a very similar name to me and kept using my email address when registering/purchasing things. This led to me knowing about her vacation in France, when she ordered pizza, and (most disturbingly) her kids Little League baseball schedule. I was finally able to reach out to the Little League and get them to ask her to PLEASE stop using my email as I now knew way, way, way too much about her life.

Guess what? It's happening again. Except instead of the email using my real name, it's for my Tsaiko gmail account. I now have a reservation confirmation from Japan Airlines for a Japanese lady in my inbox. It's all in Japanese. There's another email associated with it that I could forward it to, but I don't speak Japanese. I don't know how to tell this lady that she had accidentally used my email address.

I just... I can't believe this is happening again. In the exact same way. The last multi-year email problem started with receiving a confirmation email from the airlines.

My life.

Today I am playing a irritating fun game called: where did I save that story I want to work on?

Still not learning

So some of you may remember about me receiving confirmation for a trip to Paris and then later on login information for wi-fi access on a train from Paris to my email. Three guesses what I got today, and the first two don't count. If you said "An email for this lady again" you'd be right.

Seems Ms. Lastname has enrolled her boys in baseball camp and put my email address in as the contact. I got a receipt with her name and address, so now I know who the person is and where she lives. I tried emailing the camp back to explain the problem, but it bounced. Seems it was an auto email address that you can't reply to. A live person did contact me asking about the boys ages and I was able to inform her that she will need to contact Ms. Lastname in another fashion because she has once again given out my email address as hers.

But you know, now that I know Ms. Lastname's full name and address, I am sorely tempted to do a reverse look-up on her phone number. Maybe having the internets calling her will get her to realize that using the wrong email address for stuff can be a bad idea. I can just imagine the conversation.

"Hi Stacy[1]! How have you been? How are things over in Nowhere, OH? I hear the boys are going to be at baseball camp this summer. Pretty exciting. Did you enjoy your trip to Paris? It sounds like so much fun. Where else did you travel? I know the train ride there must have been interesting. Who is this? This is the person whose email address you keep accidentally giving out. That's how I know all this shit about you. Stop doing it." *click*

I think my good deed of the day is not moving forward with this idea. Stay good, Tsaiko. Stay good!

[1] Name and location changed so there is no hope of Ms. Lastname accidentally finding this post.

The worse thing about changing computers is that I don't have all my password automatically saved into this one, and it's been so long since I've had to actually hit some keys to enter them that I don't remember them any more.

Sigh.
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (annoyed)
Back in October, I received an email from Expedia about a trip to Paris, France. It was obviously an error so I sent a polite email letting the person who sent it to me know they had entered the wrong email address.

This week I received a confirmation from Thalys for Wifi service on the train. Obviously these people are not only going to Paris, they are taking a train to other European cities. And still inputting the wrong email address into websites.

The email included not only my email address as the login, but also this person's password question and answer. Technically, I could rest their password with this information.

Man, they are so lucky I am an honest soul.

I may have bought myself a nice Samsung mobile phone w/ the Android operating system because my old phone was from 2003, no longer held a charge, and I didn't have anything except a car charger for it any more.

It is so shiny.

I have a new phone number. Now I need to add people's numbers in. Which means I need to use the car charger at some point to charge my old phone one last time and get the numbers off of it.

ALL I WANT TO DO IS BACK-UP MY COMPUTER LIKE A GOOD USER. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK? IS IT?!?! WHY IS THIS SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS THING TO DO? WHY?

Today, in my inbox, I received a confirmation from Expedia for a trip from Ohio to Paris, France. Except 1) I didn't book a trip to Paris, France and 2) neither did any one else I know. Someone sent it to my email address instead of whomever it was supposed to go to. I suspect it's one of the four people listed as going on the trip, since all of them had my last name and two of them had a name beginning with the same letter as mine (the email address it was sent to is composed of my first initial, middle initial, and my last name). Since there was another email address attached, I sent the following email:

"To whom it may concern:

While I would love to go to Paris for a week, I don't think this was intended for me. Please recheck the email address you should send it to so that it gets to its intended recipient."

LOL.

Incoherent RAGE

tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (dinosaur)
Some of you will remember than in mid-September I had some issues with my email account. Basically my university offered the chance to migrate to an "upgraded" account which wound up being glorified gmail. This is a problem because Gmail while nice, is not secure and cannot be used by research assistants like me. After going for 2 weeks with no email whatsoever, I finally got my old account back. Everything was find and dandy until a week ago when suddenly, I stopped getting email.

At first I thought I had just hit a lag in the emails. That happens occasionally. But the days stretched on and I was getting nothing. Last night, I sent myself a test email. This morning it wasn't in my inbox.

There's a place where you can go to check to see where your email is forwarded to. I am very familiar with this page because this is where IT kept sending me when I was having email problems before someone with half a brain realized that if it didn't work the first six times I changed it, it wasn't going to work the seventh and maybe something else was wrong. I went there just to check.

At some point setting changed from the correct email address to the account that is unusable to me. Unless I'm going crazy (and granted my mental state right now is a little unstable as I try to figure out how to get this mess sorted out), I sure as hell didn't change it. Either is happened spontaneously or someone thought that because I had the umail account I must want all my email to go there and changed it. I AM FURIOUS.

I have changed it back and am now waiting for the change to take affect (instantaneous my ass) so I can forward all the emails I've missed over the last week to my actual email account as opposed to the insecure one.

Then IT is getting a very, very nasty email because I told them almost a month ago I wanted this unsecure email account deleted so stupid shit like this wouldn't happen.

Snarl!

Why yes, IT, I would love to lose access to all my emails. That is exactly why, when I did something stupid last week, I immediately emailed you on how to fix it. I do not appreciate being told that it'll be five days before anything can be done. Then once those five days pass? The way you suggested? DIDN'T WORK. And now I have no email.

Today has NOT been a good day. Especially since I have to have all the stuff for my internship done by Friday and now I cannot access any of my emails about it.

THANKS.

No love,

I AM ON THE INTERNET FROM THE APARTMENT!

And all it took was a 54 minute call to my girlfriend to fix what the bloody installer broke.

ARGH!

Do you know what I have in my hot little hands? I have the modem that will allow me to get internet at the apartment. Do you know when internet service is supposed to be turned on? Tomorrow. Do you know where I'll be tomorrow? Visiting [livejournal.com profile] maderr and [livejournal.com profile] starparty. ARGH!

Guess I will have to set things up when I get back on Sunday.

Also, my uterus is trying to inform me that it is that time of the month. I'm willing it not to be, but I don't think it's going to work. Double ARGH!

I'm also waiting for a reply from [livejournal.com profile] miome about some mail I got in NC. So far... nothing. I'm only going to be on campus another 15 minutes and then I'm heading back to the apartment. If I don't hear from her by then, I'll have to try and remember to ask her about it on the phone. TRIPLE ARGH!

Today is just an ARGH! kind of day.

Creepy crawlers!

Had my second run in of the creepy persuasion yesterday in the new apartment. The first run in was when I came home and found a rather good size spider sitting on the carpet in the middle of the living room. I got a cup, scooped him, and deposited him outside. Let him eat other things that might try to enter the apartment.

Yesterday I found a dessicated millipede sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor. It was... surreal.

I think UPS is trying to deliver the modem I need to get on the internet at the apartment. The only problem is they keep trying when I'm not at home. I am going to stay at home tomorrow in the morning (I have enough hours at work to do that) so i can be there when it's delivered.

I WANTS MY INTERNETZ!

Stop breaking!

So night before last, my air mattress died. At 2am I woke up to find myself on the hard, hard floor. Of course, being that it was 2am, my brain was not functioning correctly. Instead of doing the normal, rational, and sane thing of "get off the deflated air mattress and get the foam pad I use to exercise on and sleep on that," I decided to spend the entire night on the deflated one.

Not fun.

So last night I made an unplanned Target run where I had the misfortune of being in front of the bitchiest woman in all of Indiana. BUT I have a new, nice, twice the size of the old one air mattress.

This morning, the nose piece to my glasses randomly fell off. I can't find the tiny screw that holds in on either.

This needs to stop. Now.

In happier news, I may have internet at home by this weekend or at the latest, early next week. Which means technically, I could do some work from home (HOORAY!). I also received a CD from [livejournal.com profile] skylark97. Thank you!

I have seedlings. Both the swiss chard and the tomato plants have sprouted, which is pretty good since the package told me 7-10 days. More like 3-4 days. Neither the parsley nor the basil is showing signs of life. If I see nothing this weekend, I'm moving them from the kitchen window to the back porch with its 6+ hours of strong afternoon light. That'll at least get something going.

Last but not least, I am less than a page away from completing the third part of the Witch King story. I've given up on it being just three parts, or even four parts, and am now allowing for at least five parts. No more than six. Do you hear me story? I am dead serious on that limit. As the author, I can and will do horrible things to you if you don't obey. I also may have inadvertently written a plot hole into it, but I think I can fix it. Especially since the plot hole shows up in a drabble and not in the main plot.

Okay, work now.
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (penis)
( Behold the triumph! )

Last but not least, I've been working slowly on stories. Picked up and wrote some on Race the Wind. I've decided to stop fighting the story and just write whatever part I feel like writing instead of trying to make it go in order. It's the only way it's going to work.

Don't know if I'll post it out of order. I may make you people wait. XD

It's Friday!

Still don't have renter's insurance. I'm going to call the agency today and find up what's going on. I need it by Sunday.

I did get my Social Security card. THANK YOU [livejournal.com profile] miome! I need to find a place to get stamps so I can send off Father's Day cards.

I'm going to be trained today on digitizing maps. The guy training me sent me an email with an attachment of file for me to download. Problem? My jump Drive is 128 MB and these files zipped at 136MB. o_O I had forgotten just how huge the files you work with in GIS are. I'll probably have to get a bigger jump drive at Best Buy this weekend when I go to get a new phone. that'll also give me an excuse to go to home Depot and pick up some stuff for gardening on the back porch. HEHEHEHE.

I found my jump drive and am now able to copy pictures/files off the internet. I have no storage space in my account that is not for email. That sucks. Everything will have to be saved to my jump drive. Speaking of saving things, while I was deleting off some old files to clear up space I found a copy of an AU I'd written from my days in the Digimon fandom. After looking through my memories it seems I already posted a bunch of what I had written. I kind of miss the Phoenix Davis and Dragon Ken.

Okay, I'm going to putz around here until just before 10:00am. Then I'm off to training.

Rawr, I say.

Phone service at the new place with be activated on Friday the 15th. I don't think they'll need access to the apartment. At least, I hope they don't because I've got a meeting on campus where they will finally, finally train me for this job. I'm rather pleased because local and long distance is going to cost me less than just local at the old place. Then I turn my attention to Comcast to see about cable and internet. Oooooh. A website. Let's try there first.

*insert hysterically laughter here*

Their "basic" internet package costs more than cable/internet combines at my old place. Holy crap. Adding the most basic of cable packages would double the price to well over a $100 a month. They're also asking me about cable modems and other stuff I'm not sure about. Right. I'm going to be discussing this with [livejournal.com profile] miome before I click on anything.

In other news, I have discovered the library on campus. It is crack for bibliophiles. I have also discovered that they have a very strange concept of "art" on this campus. If you come into the library and look up, you'll see a huge clear plastic spider sculpture hanging above you. I mean huge. The body alone is bigger than I am and the legs span about three times that. It's kind of pretty, in a disturbing way.

It makes me want to bring my sister on campus and show it to her without warning. XD

I think I'm going to stay on campus until lunch (there's a special at one of the university cafeterias where lunch is a sandwich, chips, and drink for $5), then I'm heading back to the apartment to stare at the blank walls and read the rest of the yaoi manga scans that [livejournal.com profile] skylark97 sent me some time ago. They have been a life saver.

What I'm not allowed to do is spend any more money. -_-

Road trip tomorrow

Friday, June 8th, 2007 06:14 pm
tsaiko: Gif of a lemming falling off an edge (gourd!)
I decided to do my road trip in two parts: I'll start after lunch tomorrow and then drive the rest of the distance on Sunday. Twelve hours was just going to be too long to do at one go. And this way I won't feel pressured if something happens (detours, traffic, etc.) and I wind up off schedule.

I have the option of going a shorter route time wise but longer distance wise, or a longer time wise but shorter distance wise route. I leaning towards the latter. The only difference between these two routes is that the shorter time route has me doing a huge detour on Hwy 64 through Lexington, KY. Otherwise the two are identical.

Unless there's something I must OMG SEE! in Lexington, KY I think I can safely forgo that part.

Oh great. I just realized that parts of I-77 are toll. Hrm. Now I have to figure out new directions without paying tolls.

Then again, avoiding tolls on I-77 adds either a hundred miles or an hour and a half to my trip. o_O I'll bring some damn quarters or something.

And what does this tell me? It tells me to make sure I get a map so if Mapquest screws up I'm not lost in the wilds of West Virginia.

EDIT: Here is the route I'll be taking, with generalized beginning and ending directions.

Thoughts on Buffy

As always, go to Dance of the Hours to read my thoughts. this time on the Buffy Musical aired last night.

And in other news, Utopian Trunks noticed me! WHEEEEEE! I am such a fangirl, yes I am.

To be honest she actually noticed me on the LJ friends page of my friend Kari in the entry where I was talking about Fortunecity. Just in case that wasn't a one time event, I figured I'd update everyone about the Fortunecity thing. It ate my pictures. That's why they aren't appearing on my pitas page. And it also crunched one of my stories. Sigh. So I have to fix it sometime.

That's all for now.

Who am I?
