I have a poster presentation at a regional meeting on Friday. I completed all the revisions to my poster this morning. All that's left is to print it out, something which I plan on doing on Thursday since I'll be up in the lab anyway for my remote sensing class. Now I just need to not work myself up into a nervous fit before the presentation. Luckily, doing a poster doesn't require me to actually get up in front of a group of people and speak. All I have to do is stand next to it for a couple of hours and answer questions.

I'm not going to subject you all to the poster itself. Trust me, I'd be able to see all your eyes glazing over from over the internet. XD

I can't believe the end of the semester is coming up so quickly. I only have like three more classes and then it's over. Then all I have left to get my Master's is my thesis work. Wow. I'm both excited and nervous about it.

I told my mom I might not ever get a PhD. She wanted to know why. "I graduated with my Bacherlor's during the tech bust. I'm getting my Master's just as they're talking about another depression. If I try to graduate with a PhD, I'll take the whole economy down!"

Ooh, good luck with the presentation!

Last June I was at our annual conference, and spent some time listening to various presentations being given. I just do marketing, so I have no idea about seismic research or oil fields or whatever, but it was interesting to see such a vast world of Stuff I Didn't Know.
Maybe you could give a short layman's explanation?

*laughs* I want to metaquote that quote. Are you allowed to metaquote stuff people said to their RL friends/family and then posted to their LJ? *goes to find the MQ rules*

Now see, I would love to have been at that conference. My Bachelor's degree is in Geology so I would have gotten so much out of it. Even when I go to the geography conferences, most of the sessions I go to are about geology.

I might try a short explanation. It might help me get my thoughts in order for explaining it at the conference.

Metaquote away!

Cool, so are you a member of any geological associations? Since you're in the US the likeliest candidates are SEG and AAPG, I think. I work for EAGE, which is a mostly European organization, but we have members all over the place. We organize events all over the place, too.
I do hope I'm not blinding you with abbreviations, though.

Yay!

Eh, I checked the rules, and some further explanation about the rules, and since it's something you said in RL to your mother, and not a witty comment on your LJ about something RL, it's not actually a metaquote. :(

Right now, I'm only a member of the GSA (Geological Society of America). While I do know a lot about petroleum geology, my specialization was more historical and sediments. Close enough for me to sound intelligent when talking to a petroleum geologist, but no expert.

And no, you're not blinding me with abbreviations. I actually new right off the top of my head what AAPG was. Had to look up SEG though.

Alas, I will never be metaquoted. But thanks for checking. ^^

Hm, well we do have a small but growing member base who specialize in nar surface type stuff. Archeologists and so on (who deal all the time with history and sediments :) ). We even have a yearly conference dealing only with near surface topics. It's called, inspiringly, Near Surface. I don't make up conference titles (sadly, because if you look at some of our workshop's titles... *groans*). Anyway, I'm rambling, sorry.

Yeah, the GSA, I've heard of them. I don't think I've ever dealt with them so far.

I was looking forward to getting to metaquote someone, but alas. It wasn't meant to be. :(

Yay! You'll do fine on Friday. Though, I can't help but think that you might want to print it out sooner. The day before plan seems to almost ask for the printer to break down. *makes superstition warding motions*

Wow, almost done with school! Go you! The time has seemed to fly from this side of the internets. I hope it has for you, as well. In a good way.

After a bit of waffling, I think I am going to print it out sooner. I have a feeling that printing it on Thursday would be tempting Murphy just a bit too much. Since the printer on campus doesn't handle greens well and most of my poster is pictures of plants, I'm going to go to Kinko's. We shall see how much it costs.

Who am I?
