I'm beginning to think originality was a sin in Medieval England

Story research has me combing through Medieval tax records (think 1300s) to find actual names from time period. One thing I have discovered is that about 50% of the men from that time were named John. I am not even joking about that. It's kind of sadly ridiculous.
"My name is John. This is my father, John, my brother, John, and my cousin John, my Uncle, John..."
"My name is John. This is my father, John, my brother, John, and my cousin John, my Uncle, John..."
