Some of my gray hairs come from my cats
Friday, June 10th, 2011 06:32 amFirst off, Kira is doing fine though we've got orders to bring her back if she gets worse or doesn't improve by Monday.
So last night, I spent three hours at the Emergency Vet because Kira suddenly started stumbling around, acting disoriented, and going in circles. Scared the ever loving crap out of us. I got her to lay down while
miome found an Emergency Vet. Nadia, being the loving sister she was, kept wandering by wondering if Kira was perhaps getting more treats than she was. We got her in the carrier with a minimum of fuss, printed out directions, and off we went. After a speedy, but still way too long, drive we got her to the Emergency Vet.
Come to find out, Kira has a massive ear infection which the vet thinks is affecting her inner ear. Hence the disorientation. We have ear stuff, antibiotics, and anti-motion sickness medicine to give her. At least it's something treatable.
We also have to keep her from jumping up on things, which is fairly impossible anywhere in the apartment. So she's in the doggie crate we use to move them long distances with food, water, and litter. She's used the litter box and drank some water, but I don't know if she's eaten. She's a picky eater at the best of time. I'm going to give her some wet food this evening when she gets her antibiotic.
I am exhausted this morning because kitty emergency + getting home late + excessive heat (101 degrees as a high?!?!) + thunderstorms does not make for a restful night.
Cats.

Date: 6/10/11 11:43 am (UTC)My emergency vet is too far, also. There used to one right in town, but they stopped having 24-hour on-call about 10 years ago.
*snugs* I hope today is gentle with you.

Date: 6/11/11 01:16 am (UTC)I have learned that when something like this happens, no matter how close, the vet is too far.
Today is much better. I got to leave work early, took an afternoon nap, and now Kira is out of the crate being supervised. She is content to lay in her designated area and receive pettings for now. I'm hoping that the lingering wobbliness will be gone by tomorrow and we can let her roam free.
