First off, Kira is doing fine though we've got orders to bring her back if she gets worse or doesn't improve by Monday.

So last night, I spent three hours at the Emergency Vet because Kira suddenly started stumbling around, acting disoriented, and going in circles. Scared the ever loving crap out of us. I got her to lay down while [livejournal.com profile] miome found an Emergency Vet. Nadia, being the loving sister she was, kept wandering by wondering if Kira was perhaps getting more treats than she was. We got her in the carrier with a minimum of fuss, printed out directions, and off we went. After a speedy, but still way too long, drive we got her to the Emergency Vet.

Come to find out, Kira has a massive ear infection which the vet thinks is affecting her inner ear. Hence the disorientation. We have ear stuff, antibiotics, and anti-motion sickness medicine to give her. At least it's something treatable.

We also have to keep her from jumping up on things, which is fairly impossible anywhere in the apartment. So she's in the doggie crate we use to move them long distances with food, water, and litter. She's used the litter box and drank some water, but I don't know if she's eaten. She's a picky eater at the best of time. I'm going to give her some wet food this evening when she gets her antibiotic.

I am exhausted this morning because kitty emergency + getting home late + excessive heat (101 degrees as a high?!?!) + thunderstorms does not make for a restful night.

Cats.

I'm glad she seems to be doing well, and that it is something treatable. Having had animals with neurological issues, my mind always goes there first, which is a scary place to go.

My emergency vet is too far, also. There used to one right in town, but they stopped having 24-hour on-call about 10 years ago.

*snugs* I hope today is gentle with you.

Glad it wasn't something more serious. Hope she feels better soon!

Fraught times. We suffer more for those we love in our helplessness. Am glad that Kira has something that is treatable. Oh she has my sympathy for I've personnally had that and have allergy pills to prevent it. The phrase, 'kill me now', when the nausea is playing with you. *shakes head*

Loving siblings are so.. loving. *grins* The crate should protect the wet food from predation by the wrong individual. Yes, Kira is getting the yummier food. If you are sick too you can have some.

You had 101 high and the humidity of thunderstorms @_@ together. *shakes head* I'm sorry you're having such interesting times. Hope it is better soon.

My first two thoughts were "Seizure" closely followed by "Aneurysm." My mom lost a cat when he jumped down, landed, and had an aneurysm from the force of impact.

I have learned that when something like this happens, no matter how close, the vet is too far.

Today is much better. I got to leave work early, took an afternoon nap, and now Kira is out of the crate being supervised. She is content to lay in her designated area and receive pettings for now. I'm hoping that the lingering wobbliness will be gone by tomorrow and we can let her roam free.

She is feeling better, though she hates being pilled and having her ears treated. She's even managing to walk semi-straight now.

I'm thinking of giving her a new nickname. Drunken kitty.

We went ahead and fed Nadia as well, because if we didn't, she'd annoy us until we did.

Hiding the pill in the food didn't work. Kira took one sniff and turned her nose up. Sigh. We wound up having to pill her because she needs to have the antibiotic. If she doesn't eat the wet food tomorrow (we saved the one with the ground up pill in it), we'll have to just give her the pill the old fashioned way for the next two weeks.

At least the temperature will be back into the normal low 80's next week. I don't know what was going on this week.

It sounds like these instructions could help you with the Kira's treatment. Good Luck.
