I think my best "lawn ornament/Christmas decoration" story comes from a friend of mine. Her mom wanted one of those deer statues to put in her front yard. So she told her husband. Husband goes "Oh. You want a deer for the front yard? Okay." and proceeds to go out and get a life sized deer decoy. Not exactly what she had in mind.

Around Christmas they put blinking lights around the deer decoy and set him out in the front yard. The only problem was the lights were older and blinked very slowly. My friend said you could hear people slow waaaaay down when they saw this huge, antlered deer in the yard. Then they'd hit the gas and speed off when it suddenly lit up and they realized it wasn't real.

It is a wonder their house was never shot at.
