Snippet and question

C2: A hand that isn't your own?
Also, while going through my story folder during class, I stumbled across something I'd written that was supposed to be a fanfic for another writer's world. Only by the time I finished the story, the writer had taken her world in a totally different direction and revealed several pieces of information about her world that completely invalidated the story. There was no way to fix this.
I just kind of dropped the whole idea of continuing the story. It's still a really good story though and doesn't really name any of the author's characters. I was just playing around in her world. So here's the question: do I post this story on my LJ? If I do post, do I acknowledge what it was a fanfic of? Do you think the original author (who is still active on the net and on LJ) would mind if I didn't mention it? Do you think she'd mind if I did mention it (assuming she even remembers or even read the story I wrote)?
I'm curious to hear people's opinions.
