Because out fireplace has no mantle and is floor to ceiling stone work, I need to attach two hooks to the ceiling in order to hang anything (like a mirror) over the fireplace.

I am about to type "how do I attach hooks to the ceiling" into google.

I am going to get a lot of really, really interesting hits on this one.

Ahaha! Have fun with that!

Also, here I was thinking you wanted to hang stockings...

Yeah, but she'll probably have to wade through the posts that give instructions for reinforcing it to hold, say, the weight of a grown man. For the people who want indoor swing-sets. That they can play in naked-ish.

And unless the mirror is huge and/or expensive, it probably doesn't need that much work.

I guess I was just baffled by the need for an internet search in the first place. ^^; I guess this is proof that I've been working at a hardware store too long.

It's all so simple when you know how to do it. ;P

The issue is that there won't be studs where I want it. There is a large (like 1ft thick) support beam but I'm not sure I want to drill into the thing that supports my entire house.

I did find what I needed, which is a ceiling hook that has a anchor that will open on the other side of the drywall/ceiling when inserted. Looks like yet another trip to the home improvement store is in my future.

Strangely enough, the sticky backed hooks were strong enough to hold the stockings with something in them. Said hooks are not good enough to hold anything larger up though. The stockings are hung, but not anything else.

*headscratch* One beam shouldn't be supporting everything. Might be a reinforcing beam... and you should have studs regularly every... mmm.. 16 inches, I think? Or could be 24, actually. Wall joists are 16in on center, but I always forget how the ceiling ones are arranged due to electrical going in the walls not the ceiling. ;)

No kidding. Two years ago I needed help to change an outlet, and right now I could wire an entire house from start to finish. >.>;

Who am I?
