Why am I reading this crap?

So... in the interest of being entertained, I started reading fanfics with werewolves. Mostly in the Supernatural, Harry Potter, and Sherlock fandoms. I have to say this, fanfic authors definitely come up with more interesting ideas than a lot of the m/m ebook writers. They don't always write any better (and most times worse), but at least it's not the same two plots that most werewolf ebooks use: alpha falls for abused beta or solitary alpha finds unexpected mate and lots of sex occurs.


Obviously, I kind of hate myself, because I started reading one Supernatural fic that was just beyond everything. I couldn't even finish the first chapter (there were several). I only have one question. Why did someone write a werewolf Supernatural fanfic where Dean gets what I can only describe as an ass period? I mean, I knew what I was getting into when the tags to describe it included "werewolf, bottom!dean, mpreg." I could deal with all that. But then there was literal mangina.

I read a fic with Inuyasha getting a period like that. It was surprisingly not too badly written, as fanfics go, but the bleeding was the least pleasant thing about the story. And this was inu/sess mpreg, so I knew what I was getting into as well.

If you're looking for werewolf stories and you've mined out the fic, I can recommend one of the most original takes on the werewolf genre I've ever seen. It's the Ukiah Oregon series by Wen Spencer. (The first book is called "Alien Taste".)

I finished the first book, thought about how cool it was for awhile, then slapped myself on the head and said "Damn, it's about *werewolves*!" And I know the author and read bits while she was writing it! That's how awesome she is.
