More seriously... I had fun at the Science Fiction museum? And there's an underground tour which is kind of cool.

And if you're into tall arguably-phallic objects, there's the space needle...

The Fremont Troll. It's a great, quick stop. Not a terribly well-known tourist destination, but it ensures a lot of fun pictures.

The International Fountain is a great place to spend the afternoon if you get tired of the Space Needle. You are allowed to "swim" in the water geysers, but I would recommend that only in warmer weather- that water is frigid!

The Pike Place Fish Market is tons of fun. Though the link I gave you only shows the fish market, its actually a sort of open-air building with a street level and an underground level! There's a lot of great shopping places within the building- its a fun way to spend an afternoon if you don't mind a bit of tourist-y nonsense. Plus, the workers at the fish market do actually toss the fish around to each other... its a great show!

For the obviously touristy stuff:
Pike Place Market
The Underground Tour
The "Ride the Ducks" tour thingie
The Fremont Troll is kinda nifty
Take a gander at the unnatural, utterly-useless-as-a-library Downtown Library (they have tours, but be warned! It's more of a flophouse with books than an actual library)


For the less touristy stuff:
If you can, take in a movie at the Egyptian Theater. They usually have decent stuff playing late at night
I'd suggest getting in some genuine Greasy Spoon local color at the Turf, on Second and Pike. Also, there's this nifty place that does crepes and stuff at the Washington State Convention Center
Avoid the McDonalds on 3rd. The people who work there are dicks. Also, don't do the mono-rail. Huuuge waste of money and it kinda smells. Also, the Westlake Mall Dining room.

Well, if you do come we have a surprisingly-comfortable double-height air mattress and a nice view of the city/mountains! :D

I don't think we'll be able to make it to the US until later in the year, alas. We want to do Boston/NYC/DC.

And I remember, after I say something, that we will have no car available. I somehow doubt public transportation runs to Vancouver, but I've been wrong before.

I highly recommend all three places, as they are all awesome.

Well, there aren't city buses or anything, but there's Amtrak and Greyhounds and stuff? I haven't taken them, but we just picked up some friends from the train (Seattle->Vancouver) last weekend.

I've never been to any of them! Alex has, but is all enthused about seeing the Smithsonian again. We figured we'll get the train between each city, but we haven't decided where to fly in to yet. XD

I think the convention I'm going to is in the Washington State Convention Center, so I will definitely check out the crepes place. Food recommendations are always good because otherwise I just try to get away from the touristy areas and go to whatever place looks busy.

I have no idea how much free time I'm going to have. It really depends on how many conference sessions I want to attend. Some years I go to a sessions in every time slot and others I spend half a day going "What now?"

The convention will most likely be there, yeah. Most of the big ones are. They also have a Tullys there on the third floor, right next to the Subway, and (kinda sucky) free internet access. Also, if you need munchies on the relatively cheap, there's a grocery store on 3rd, just down the block from the Impossible to Miss Walgreens.
