AU: Dragon of Blood and Fire, Mage-Prince
Saturday, April 24th, 2010 04:18 pmIlhuiti was not happy with the clothes he'd been given.
The problem was he was from the highlands. The cloud forests were beautiful, but they were also damp and, in the highest elevations, cold. Ilhuiti was use to men and women in full dress, with cloaks of alpaca wool and blouses of cotton. Even the shoes Ilhuiti's people wore covered the feet. At most, someone would see a daring flash of ankle, or the glimpse or a wrists between
Things were different here in the lowlands, where it was just as damp but so hot that it could sap a person's will to move. Here the people went around nearly naked wearing little more than feathers, jewelry, and a woven skirt. Ilhuiti could understand the necessity of lighter clothing. But did there have to be so little of it?
His… captor? Host? Ilhuiti wouldn't use the word master no matter how much Eztil might want him to… had given him a fine silk skirt edged with colorful embroidery. And that was it. He recognized the colors – red and black and gold and sky blue – as being of Eztilinhuica's house. It made him wonder if the mage-prince was announcing his claim on Ilhuiti for all to see.
He felt naked. Worse than that, he got the impression that he was dressed like the type of servant that would have the ladies and gentleman of the court whispering behind their hands with speculation in their eyes. For all that he was being held against his will as a political prisoner, Ilhuiti didn't want to believe that Eztil meant for people to think he was a bed servant.
"Surely he can't be that bad," Ilhuiti muttered to himself. He had thought he'd said the words softly enough, but one of the guards to the throne room reacted. Tlazi was his name, and he snorted before leaning sideways to open the door. Ilhuiti flushed, embarrassed at having been caught talking to himself about the mage-prince.
"He's worse," Tlazi whispered, just before Ilhuiti walked through the doorway.
Eztil was not by himself in the throne room. Several of his advisors were milling around, obviously wondering what was causing the delay in the morning sessions. The mage-prince was sitting sideways in the throne with his legs over one arm and his back propped against the other. He practically radiated bored condensation. Ilhuiti wondered why Eztil's advisors let him get aware with this. If his own prince had dared to do such a thing, someone would have called him on it.
Maybe the problem with Eztil was simply that so few people had ever told him "no." That would certainly explain his overreaction to Ilhuiti's refusal.
"You're here." Eztil's whole attitude changed when he saw Ilhuiti. He sat up, rearranging himself so he was sitting properly in his throne. His golden eyes lit up and he smiled. Not the smirk he usually wore, but a genuine smile. It made Ilhuiti stumble to a halt, confused. "Good. Now we can begin."
"You were waiting on me?" Ilhuiti could feel his cheeks began to heat. The mage-prince had held up the entire morning court session because he wasn't there yet? He felt every eye in the room on him.
"Yes, yes." Eztil motioned impatiently for him to approach the throne. "Come here and sit."
"Sit where?" Ilhuiti asked. Eztil's smile turned mischievous as he gestured for Ilhuiti to sit on his lap. Ilhuiti felt the blush grow worse, almost scalding in its intensity. "I'd rather not."
"You can always sit at my feet then." Eztil replied. "You'd look good there."
"I'll stand, thank you." Ilhuiti moved to take a place just to the side of the thrown. For a split second he was sure that Eztil would argue with him. His eyes narrowed dangerously. Everyone in the room held their breath. Then the mage-prince shrugged, as if it was no big deal.
"If you get tired and want to sit…" Eztil began.
"I'll stand."
It was going to be a long, long day.
I'm going to start working on the next one tonight. I already know which one I want to do. XD

And Ilhuiti will not make that easy for him XD
