I'm actually going to do the bad news first. I'm sick. I seem to have caught [livejournal.com profile] miome's cold. Not that I'm too surprised given that jet lag and stress have been the tune for most of the week.

The good news? I sent in the 11 pages of the GIS portion of the proposal yesterday with a note saying let me know what changes need to be made. I got an email back saying not only is is perfect as is, but that the person in charge of the proposal appreciates the timeliness and effort I put into it. He sang my praises and them made sure to copy the email to both my boss and to the head of my place of employment. So yeah, I just got major brownie points at my job.

I love being appreciated.

*huuuuuuuuugs* I hope you feel better soon. ♥

Drink lots of water and maybe if you like chrysanthemum tea you could drink that. If you can get some barley-water, the kind brewed with rock sugar, you might want to drink that. (We call it barley-water over here, I don't know what you'd call it. :x)

*snrk* I just googled it and it seems 'barley drink' = beer. XD;;; Well, I actually meant this (http://curiousfoodie.wordpress.com/2008/02/22/barley-drink-recipe/), so it's great that it happens to be a recipe. :D

[Edit: By the way, I think if the winter melon is difficult to get, it's okay to make the drink even without it.]

I decided to come home and rest and will probably make myself some tea when I feel energetic. I may get some barley and make barley drink. It looks interesting. Thank you!

Now I wish that I still lived next to the Asian market. I bet they would have had winter melon.

Mmm, tea. The barley drink is also one of the few Chinese drinks with reputed medicinal properties that don't make me cringe and pour it down the drain when my mother isn't looking. Another - although this may be harder to obtain - is water chestnut drink, which is actually brewed with sugar cane. Just found two (http://happyhomemaker88.wordpress.com/2008/03/17/a-cooling-red-cane-water-chestnuts-barley-drink-to-counter-body-heatiness/) recipes (http://crystalbyblog.blogspot.com/2007/10/water-chestnut-and-sugar-cane-drink.html) that look close to what I'm thinking of. The ones I drink tend to be a darker brown than though.

Both of these are sweet and not noxious. Some of the others taste a hell lot ickier. :P
