Every time I look at my new LJ layout, I have to wonder how many people think that it's picturing the northern lights.

Then I have to wonder how many people realize that penguins are only found south of the equator.

This is why my LJ is now named what it is.

Also, learning InDesign through the crash course method is not recommended. Before I have to have this poster done, I will figure out how to put borders around text boxes.

If you end up stumped, my brother may know how to do this. But he may have forgotten in the two years since OfficeMax laid him off.

...If I remember correctly, look out for 'Swathes' (or something spelled similarly) in the thingies on the right hand side. One of the many many many tool-panel-things.

It was under stroke. Because that makes so much sense. -_-

Thank you for the help. If you hadn't said something I never would have found it.

I think swathe might be to change text colour? Hm.

^^;; No problem, I actually prefer using InDesign to InCopy. But I'm most familiar with Quark. :P

That is not true! I've seen penguins in Pennsylvania, New York, and I think Minnesota.

I'm not even going to comment on the obvious example of seeing the Penguins in Pittsburgh. :P

I don't work with InDesign, but I work with people who do. I could relay questions?

Also, when I go over the reply link or tags, the main content hides in the sidebar. :(

Love the journal title. And I should totally visit my friends' actual journals more, instead of just hanging out on my friends page.

Try resizing the browser window and see it that fixes it. IE has a bug in how it handles CSS and that's breaking it. Firefox should have no issues. I know there's a fix, I just need to find it.

I had fiddle with the CSS to get the content to not be squished into a middle column. That drives me batty.

Ah, one of my co-workers just took an InDesign poster class through the college. Hm, I wonder if your IT offers classes, and if so, if grad students can take them? Ours are only for staff but we don't have grad students.

Good luck!

The university does offer classes in InDesign. However, I have just over one week before I have to fly out and present this thing. I can take them when I get back, but there is no way now.

As it is, I'm just under half-way through this poster. Probably more than that because I can copy and paste some of this directly from my last poster. I WILL BE TRIUMPHANT.

If you need more help, let me know and I'll see what I can do?

I'm a graphic design student and InDesign is my GOD.

If you use the rectangle tool (the one that draws shapes) and then change the stroke of the border to your desired thickness, your text frames should be done in no time at all!

Plus, googling a tutorial could help--there are videos and screen shots and really helpful ones like that around.

Thank you! I did manage to figure out how to do border (and how to put pictures into the poster. Yeah!). I'm definitely going to find a tutorial and figure out how to get this thing to work. I just cannot do what my department suggests and create a poster using Powerpoint again.

Scribus (or Inkscape) was a useful InDesign alternative when doing layout on the cheap at Iris, I recall.

Who am I?
