Original slash fiction. Just one scene that I'll probably rewrite it and add all the details and thoughts I want to add to it. This was just a rough draft where I got down the main actions and feelings. Let me know what you guys think.
Luke wasn't in class.
It shouldn't bother Zavier, but it did. He and Luke didn't get along, often sniping at each other before and after class, which just made it all the more noticeable when Luke wasn't there. Zavier didn't like the silence. Or the calm. Which came as something of a surprise, because when Luke was around a lot of times he found himself longing for it.
Still he wasn't too worried until lunch time, when Zavier found out that Isaac was also not in school. One of the cousins he could understand. But both? There had to be something seriously wrong for both of them to miss classes.
As soon as Zavier wanted the school day to end – he would go over to their house after the bell and who cared if he had to walk an hour to get home if he didn't take the bus – it seemed to stretch on forever. Science and lab. Math. Flight lessons.
"Where's Luke?" Mr. Biff asked. "I can't imagine he would skip lessons."
"He wasn't in any of his other classes," Zavier replied. Normally, he'd be thrilled to get an edge on the other dragon. They often competed against each other during the lessons, mostly because they were the only two dragons that hadn't already completed them. "His cousin wasn't here today either."
"There's really not anything I need to work on with you on an individual basis," Mr. Biff said. "I would really prefer if you both learned to take off from a standstill at the same time..."
Then let me go early. Zavier bit the inside of his cheek to keep from saying it. He knew the flight instructor. If he so much as breathed a word about wanting to leave early, Mr. Biff would make sure he stayed late.
"I guess I'll just let you go early. Enjoy an afternoon off."
"Thanks Mr. Biff," Zavier said. He calmly walked off of the training field, back into the gym, and then bolted. Zavier heard one person call after him, but he didn't stop. If he didn't stop, then they couldn't tell him he needed to go back to class and he wouldn't have to waste time explaining that he didn't have class.
Three blocks from school, Zavier slowed down to a trot. A few blocks later, he slowed to a fast walk. He had just about decided that he'd forgotten how to get to Isaac and Luke's house when he spotted a familiar looking grocery store. This is it. I didn't get lost.
The apartment building was a typical six story affair made of brick with a zig-zagging fire escape up the front that doubled as balconies for the residents. Zavier stood on the stoop, running his finger down the list of last names. What did Isaac say his cousin's last name was? Agith? I think it was Agith. There was an apartment labeled "Agith" so Zavier pushed the buzzer.
A few seconds later masculine voice came over the intercom. It was crackly and distorted. "Hello?"
"Hi. My name is Zavier. I'm a friend of Isaac's. He wasn't at school and I was wondering if everything was..."
"Hold on," the voice said, cutting him off mid-sentence. Zavier fidgeted with the strap to his backpack. He'd never met Isaac and Luke's cousin. Isaac had said something about having other family, but had gone quiet right afterwards, so Zavier hadn't asked. I wonder what they're like?
It seemed like forever before he heard the sound of the door unlocking. Zavier put on his best honest smile, wanting to make a good impression. The smile went away as soon as he saw Luke.
He looked tired. There were faint circles under Luke's blue eyes, and he carried himself like walking was an effort. That didn't stop him from looking Zavier straight in the eye, daring him to say something. Luke's whole posture radiated arrogance and his voice was rough when he spoke. "You were worried about Isaac."
"You don't look good either," Zavier said. "What happened?"
For a second, Zavier didn't think Luke would respond. In fact, he looked like Zavier was the absolute last person he wanted to see. Zavier didn't back down though. He looked Luke directly in the eye, held still, and waited.
Luke sighed, stubbornness melting from his posture. "Last night was a rough night. Isaac... sometimes he has episodes where he can't breathe. We wound up taking him to the emergency room and didn't get home until really early this morning."
"Is he okay?" Zavier asked. He didn't want to stand there and just take Luke's word for it. He wanted to push past him, find Isaac and make sure for himself that he was alright.
"Whatever they gave him to help with his breathing makes Isaac dizzy, so he's staying in bed. Classes just didn't see worth it today." Luke ran a hand through his hair, rumpling it further.
"Are you okay?" Zavier asked. A lot of dragons at school wondered if the rumors were true: if Luke really was bonded to his cousin. Isaac might not be bonded to Luke, but Luke was definitely bonded to Isaac. He couldn't imagine how the other dragon could have stood by watching his bonded struggling to breathe and not panicked.
Instead of answering, Luke just looked at him. Zavier wasn't sure he liked that look. It was the same look Luke gave him when he was trying to decide which scathing remark or insult to make.
"Do you want to come in?" Luke asked. Zavier blinked. That... was not what he'd been expecting. "It would make him happy to see you. To know you came."
"Yes." Zavier wasn't sure he trusted this sudden turn of events, but he entered the house anyway. The foyer was tiled in black and white with a wall of brass mailboxes on one side and a door leading to stairs on the other. Luke headed straight for the stairs. Zavier followed him.
The apartment was on the third floor, behind a door with a brass plaque that read 302. Luke fished a key out of his pocket, put it in the lock, turned, and opened the door. Zavier remembered to toe off his shoes at the entrance this time. Then he followed Luke into the living room.
It was much as Zavier remembered it. A wall of book shelves made it seem smaller than it actually was and some of the books had migrated onto the floor. The walls were a warm orange-red. The couch was brown as was the chair currently covered school books and paper. The floor was wood and covered with a braided rug in red, oranges and golds.
Zavier liked it. It looked lived in.
"Who was at the door, Luke?" Zavier looked up at the voice. He was pretty sure that when Isaac had mentioned his cousin, he'd said "she." So who was this?
"Jonar, this is Zavier. He's a friend of Isaac's. Zavier, this is Jonar. He's Melissa's pet." Luke gestured towards the kitchen. A man with dark hair came into the living room, wiping his hands on a towel. When he saw Zavier, he stopped and nodded his head.
"I'm bonded to their cousin." So he was a dragon. "You can go back and see Isaac. Don't tire him out."
"I won't. Thank you," Zavier replied. Zavier already liked him. Anyone who could put up with Luke for any length of time, much less live with him, without strangling the other dragon had to be good.
"This way," Luke said heading down a hallway. Zavier followed. The door to one of the rooms was open and he could hear the sound of video game music coming it. Luke entered the room. Zavier made it to the doorway and paused.
"Hey, who was at the door?" Isaac asked. He didn't look as tired as Luke, though he still looked drained. And rumpled. Isaac was still in bed, wearing a loose T-shirt and with his hair brown hair sticking up in ways that suggested it hadn't been combed all day. When Luke didn't answer Isaac hit the start button, paused the game, and looked up.
Right at Zavier.
"Zav!" Any doubt Zavier had about whether he should have come evaporated. Isaac's whole face lit up when he saw him. It made Zavier want to duck his head, look at Isaac through his eyelashes. It made him inexplicably shy.
"Oh. Um. Sorry I'm such a mess." Isaac ran his hands through his hair, which did nothing to make it look less messy. He laughed nervously. "I haven't gotten up out of bed all day."
"It's okay. Luke explained what happened." At the mention of Luke, Isaac turned to look at him. Luke just shrugged and crawled into bed beside Isaac.
"What?" Luke asked, when Isaac continued to just look at him.
Isaac shook his head. "Nothing. Anyway, do you want to stay and play some video games with us, Zav? I can't really get out of bed without getting dizzy."
"It's fine," Zavier said. Then he looked around. There was a dresser, a bookcase, a closest, and the bed. "Um... where do I sit?"
"Move over," Luke told Isaac. He picked up the other controller where it had been abandoned on the floor beside the bed.
"You have plenty of room." Isaac pushed him a little bit. Luke pushed back.
"No. Towards me. There should be enough room for Zav on the other side," Luke replied. He hit all the buttons on his controller at once. The video console gave a beep and then reset itself. "He can watch me thoroughly kick your ass at this game."
"Why are you being so nice all of sudden?" Isaac asked even as he moved over closer to Luke. Zavier put his backpack down on the floor and crawled into bed beside Isaac. It was comfortable with thick pillows and a soft blanket. But it was also warm, and not only from Isaac's lingering body heat. Zavier was pressed against Isaac from ankle to thigh, and he was aware of every inch of contact.
"Say that again after we've played," Luke replied.
Zavier watched them play three matches of the fighting game. Luke won all three. A quarter way through a fourth match, Isaac yawned. Luke rolled his eyes and hit the pause. "Let Zavier play."
"Why did you stop it? I was just getting ready to kick your ass," Isaac complained.
"Sure. That's why you can barely keep your eyes open. It's easy enough to beat you when you're awake." Luke yelped when Isaac poked him in the side. "Hey!"
"Give the controller to me," Zavier said. "I'll defend your honor from the likes of him."
"My hero," Isaac said. His smile was like a kick in the stomach, making all the breath rush from Zavier's lungs. Luke was making gagging noises. "I'm going to enjoy watching you wipe the floor with him."
"Sure thing." Zavier had barely taken the controller when Luke unpaused the game. The other dragon got a quick combo in before Zavier was mashing the buttons.
Thirty minutes passed in a flash. Luke and Zavier were tied: each had one two of the four fights they played. Zavier was just about to suggest a fifth fight when he caught Luke looking down at Isaac. He looked himself only to find that Isaac had drifted off at some point.
"Oh," Zavier said quietly. He didn't want to wake Isaac now that he was actually asleep. "I should probably go."
"Wait." Luke grabbed his arm before he could move. "He'd be upset if you left without saying good-bye."
It was quite possibly the sweetest thing Zavier had ever seen Luke do. Luke was always the challenging, obnoxious, prick. To see him this concerned over his bonded's feelings was a nice change. It was heartening to see, even if it was slightly disconcerting at the same time.
"You really do care about him." It was a statement, not a question. Luke narrowed his eyes and Zavier felt bad. He hadn't meant for that to come out like that. In apology, he leaned over Isaac and rested his temple against Luke's.
That was a very dragon gesture. It was a sign of affection and apology at the same time. The only problem was that while Luke was a dragon, he'd spent a lifetime suppressing his draconian urges. He never reacted like a normal dragon. Zavier felt Luke stiffen and pulled back, wondering what he'd done wrong.
Luke was looking at him, blue eyes wide and pupils dilated. His breathing was ragged. Zavier was just about to ask what was wrong, when Luke leaned forward and kissed him.
The kiss wasn't gentle, but it wasn't brutal either. It was dry and chaste up until the point Luke used his tongue to taste Zavier's lips. Zavier opened his mouth in response. Then the kiss was slick and hot as their tongues rubbed together.
Between them, Isaac made a noise.
Both Luke and Zavier jerked back as if they'd been burned. Luke's cheeks were bright red and he quickly dropped his eyes. Zavier's face also felt too flush. Isaac made another sound, and he quickly put on his best smile before looking down. Seconds later, Isaac blinked awake.
"Wha... oh. Sorry. I must have fallen asleep," Issac said. He shook his head as he pushed himself up.
"It's okay. I needed to leave anyway," Zavier said. He was pleased that his voice was so even. Inside, all his emotions were jumbled together. "I just wanted to stay long enough to say good-bye."
"Thank you. For coming over," Isaac said.
"No problem. I'll see you tomorrow at in class?" Zavier said. Isaac nodded in response. He looked up at Luke, not sure what he was going to say, but the other dragon was fiddling with the controller and wouldn't meet his eyes. Zavier found himself speaking before he could stop. "Don't let your cousin boss you around too much."
"Shouldn't you be going?" Luke said sharply. He still wouldn't meet Zavier's eyes.
"Yeah, see you." Zavier grabbed his backpack as he left the room. He could hear Isaac asking Luke what was going on, but didn't wait around to hear Luke's answer. Maybe the other dragon would tell him what had happened. Maybe he wouldn't. No matter what, Zavier knew one thing for sure.
Life had just become very, very complicated.

Date: 9/28/08 11:59 pm (UTC)But am I wrong in thinking possible threesome? If Luke is bonded to Issac and Zavier seems sweet on him as well, and Issac lit up so much when Zavier visited him and then there's the kiss between Zavier and Luke...
I'm also curious about the 'verse. ^___^ Dragons in high school, ftw! Is Issac supernatural? The poor boy, lung problems suck, ulgh. And I'm curious to sort out the other apartment-mates/family, but that's not as important. Also, why has Luke spent so long suppressing his draconic instincts? Questions, questions. Definitely an auspicious start. ^____^

Date: 9/29/08 12:08 am (UTC)And yes, the original idea is that there will eventually be a threesome. I don't know if I'll write any more of it because the whole thing is so damn complicated.
Isaac is a mage, which isn't talked about in this fragment. He's basically going to the same school as Luke and Zavier because of his and Luke's immediate family. Those lovely people are the reason why Luke also suppressed his dragon instincts.
Darn it, now I may have to write more on this.

Date: 9/29/08 01:01 am (UTC)murdered for them if I post themsuckered into writing the rest somehow.Aaah, cool. ^___^ I'm assuming the bonding is strictly a dragon thing? Are they living with the immediate family? Or some other family that's more lenient? I hope it's the latter.
Uh, I totally encourage this. ^__~ Man, I'd love to see Issac's reaction when he realizes what Luke and Zavier did. I'd bet monopoly money that he's bewildered and hurt. I'd also love to see the three of them get their shit together, even if it's just at the very end -- the get together scene, I suppose. I'm a sucker for those. ^___^ But I will be happy with whatever you end up with for these three, even if this scene is it.

Date: 9/29/08 03:01 am (UTC)So, Issac and Luke are cousins, and they live with their cousin Melissa, who has a pet named Jonar who is a dragon like Luke and Zavier. And Issac is a mage and not a dragon? But he is taking flying lessons with Zavier. I think I have it mostly all down, and am ready for more. *grins*
Sounds like it is time to camp out in the lobby/hallway of your apartment and 'encourage' more writing.

2) Dragons!! *drools*
3) Dragons playing video games! XD
4) I also muchly love how Zavier seems to be the one in the most know of exactly what all is going on. I like that he can see that Luke has bonded to Issac, even if the reverse might not totally be the case. (I also like that he seems to be a bit oblivious to the fact that he might be bonded or is bonding the same way. ^_^) I also totally love the 'dragon way' of apologizing and the way Luke then kisses him and dude, please tell me that there will be more? *_____*
*tackle glomps* So much love! <333
