Forums? Why?
Thursday, October 6th, 2005 09:36 pmI'm not much for Forums. I usually haunt them for a grand total of about a month and then I wander away. It's just the way I am. As I went through the NaNoWriMo forums it dawned on me why.
I don't like wasted words and I definitely don't like stupid people.
Forums seems to attract stupid people in droves. They also attract long, rambly posts that consist of such burning questions as "Harry Potter vs Spider man: Who would win?" and "What is the best fantasy writer ever?" Things that no matter how long the thread is or how much evidence you give, people will have already made up their mind before they put a word down and nothing will change their opinion.
I think this also has a lot to do with why I refuse to get into any sort of political discussion on or off the internet. When you get into an arguement, there's no way you're changing the other person's mind. They've already decided that they are right and you are wrong. Nothing will change that. No facts. No figures. No words. The discussion was over before it started and you both disagree. Why go through all the pain of arguing when you already know the outcome?
Some people like this sort of thing. I'm not one of them. So I avoid any threads that look like the might degenerate into that. Then I avoid any thread that attracts stupid people. Then I sort through the rest to find something that actually looks interesting to me. By that time I'm down to... one or two threads if I'm lucky.
Yeah, definitely not a forum person here

I feel you pain. I spent a grand total of 2 days signed up on one of the anime con's forums. It was enough to make me swear off the internet for a week.
