You mean I'm stubborn?
Thursday, August 21st, 2008 09:33 amThe facilities people are beginning to dread hearing my room number. Last week the computer people moved the grad students back out of our advisers office, where we'd been relocated over the summer while they fixed the air system on the second floor. We were moved down to our old room. The room smelled terrible. Like really, really terrible.
So I politely harassed them until they provided me with a industrial strength fan so I could eliminate some of the smell in the room. It worked. The smell was reduced, though it never fully went away. On Tuesday, the fan was reclaimed. Everything was fine for a few days. This morning, the smell had returned. I started complaining.
I also let the dept. secretary know that not once has the air in this room turned on in all the days I've been in it. Facilities comes out here. It's is noticeably warmer in here (by like 10-15 degrees Farenheit) than out in the hall, where I keep expecting to see polar bears frolicking with Santa's elves. Sure enough, the guy isn't sure they've turned on the controllers for the room so we've been getting no air flow. That explains why the smell has returned and why it's so warm.
If this isn't fixed in a week, I've been given permission to keep harassing them until it is fixed. Although I got the impression for the guy that he thought I might just forget about the whole thing. Not likely.
I love being stubborn. It always puts a damper on someone's day and makes me smile.
