Catch-up on life

It's been about five years since I last posted on LJ, and Tumblr really didn't work well for text posts. So I figured I'd go over some things I've been doing in that time. In the last five years, I have:

• Changed jobs multiple times (sometimes voluntary, sometimes... less so)


• Lost the other one of my old kitties


• Gained three other cats


• Had two trees almost fall on my house


• Became a licensed drone pilot


• Traveled to Canada (Toronto) for business


• Went into business for myself


• Decided going into business for myself was not my thing


• Continued working on my Spanish comprehension


• Started learning Norwegian (aka Bokmål)


• Learned some of the basics of Python, Javascript, Java, and Android programming


• Confirmed that while I know a lot of bits and pieces of programming, I am not a programmer


• Did a stint working in the field of Emergency Management


• Worked for a start-up company


• Was let go from said start-up company when it did not start as well as initially planned

It's been an interesting time to say the least.

Wow, sounds like quite the time!
Do you mind me asking what kind of thing you're doing now? (you don't have to go into specifics/details if you don't want to :)

I am still doing GIS (geographic information systems), only now with a side of data analysis. Still loving it. It's for a large corporation dealing with utilities. That's the one thing that has stayed fairly consistent: GIS. I think there was one temp. job that was just data analysis for a utility company. That's when I had to go up to Canada for training.

Did you have a nice time in Canada or was it just a very quick in and out kind of business trip?

I was there for about two weeks? Most of it was working 8-5, but I spent an entire weekend just exploring Toronto. Honestly, they could have had me up there for less than a week because I picked up their entire work flow in three days AND was giving them suggestions on how to improve it.
