Can you freeze sperm at home for future use?

Is there such a thing as dried corn syrup?

The answers are:

No, you need to use liquid nitrogen and have proper storage equipment in order to keep the sperm from being damaged.

Yes, corn syrup can be dried into a crystalline solid.

And I then wonder why no one will play against me at Trivial Pursuit.

You can keep sperm in a home freezer if you have a liquid nitrogen thermos. (We had goat sperm in our freezer, when I was a kid. We bought it at great expense, but breeding the goats to other live goats worked much better. They liked it better too.)

That is true. But not many people just have a liquid nitrogen thermos (and not furnace, like I almost typed -_-) hanging around. I knew you could and did freeze sperm for later use, I just didn't know if specialized equipment was necessary. Or could someone just make a homemade spermcicle and then use it to get pregnant?

There's probably certain suspension media that you need to freeze human sperm in too, because, you know, water expands when crystallized and tends tend to explode cells.

If you have anybody who does cell culture in a lab, they can tell you in more detail.
