I may have just killed our vacuum cleaner.

Accidentally banging it on the fireplace, followed by a spark, and then a burning smell is not a good sign, right?

Considering we've had this thing since we killed our last one five apartments ago back when we still lived in NC, maybe it's time we get a new one anyway.

Ouch.
Might see if it can be repaired?
When I was growing up we had a Kirby that lasted through all of my growing up and then some. I hear they aren't as lasting now but they do repair the older versions still or did up to 10 years ago.

I like the canister varity for the it takes more to hurt them reason now. The motor part is not where the knocking it into things forcefully part meets.

You know, when I think about it, this vacuum is almost 10 years old. I doubt it's worth fixing. There have been a bunch of smaller problems with it recently, and it would probably cost just as much to fix as get a new one.

Ours is (was) bagless because that seemed to work the best when it came to my hair and the cats' fur. I'll probably look to replace it with a bagless one as well.

Oh, what timing. I just killed (another) vacuum too. >.> I need one of those carpet rakes, because long hair does not like vacuums. -__-;;

The last time I had a spark and a burning smell involved, I set the vacuum bag on fire.

It was amazing.

I've never been allowed to use a vacuum cleaner ever since. :D

I recommend the bagless, they're quite amazing. B really likes ours. It was worth the investment.

I set the vacuum bag on fire.

That's the kind of thing you can announce at a party and instantly people will start asking questions. It makes a great story. :D

I bought a used Dyson off my mother's neighbor last year and it was so worth it. The thing is indestructable and it picks up the massive amounts of dog hair (and my hair) that we have to deal with. My only complaint is that it's kind of heavy and unwieldy to use on the stairs, even with the hose attachments (which is why the lady was selling it in the first place...she was afraid she'd break a hip vacuuming the stairs). Otherwise I'd recommend it without reservation.

Who am I?
