Garden Maintenance
Sunday, May 4th, 2008 04:18 pmWell today has been the first weekend day that 1) it didn't rain, 2) it wasn't windy, 3) it's warm and 4) I wasn't running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get an assignment done so I've been doing container maintenance in preparation for planting next weekend. This means I'm getting out all the pots I'll be using this year, evaluating their condition, and painting those that are too sun faded.
I had almost completely used up one can on a long planter so I went to Lowe's to get some more. I also picked up mint seeds, a much larger container for my tomato, and an elusive round tomato cage. I got the last one and as I was carrying it out of the store someone was asking where they were. Too bad. IT'S MINE.
Also, I finally have a eggplant sprout! It's three weeks behind everything else because the first set of seeds I planted failed to germinate. Soaking the seeds overnight finally got them to go.
miome got me a nice book with stained glass flowers on the cover, so I'm using that as a gardening notebook. Hopefully, this will help me keep track of what works and what doesn't.
I was hoping to get some things in pots this week, but it looks like I have to wait until all the pots are painted. Sigh. At least now all my pots will be either green, blue or white and none will be sun faded. And maybe I can at least get the chard and lettuces planted...
