At least my "Oh shit!" earthquake skills are still up to par. Building started shaking and I immediately ran for a doorway. Too bad the door in it was locked. Sigh. Definitely don't want to ride out another major earthquake on the top floor of an office building again.

I think I had enough adrenaline for one afternoon.

EDIT: HA! I knew if I looked long enough someone would identify the fault line (or cluster) that spawned it instead of the standard "It could be one of many" bullshit the USGS says about every quake that's not on the West Coast. Spotsylvania Fault is the most likely culprit, which puts it squarely in the central Virginia seismic zone.

Bet you didn't even know Virginia had a seismic zone. Obviously small earthquakes, and occasionally large ones, do happen in central Virginia.

I am now gleefully reading about geology.

I had the exact same thought! until I realized that all the doorways around me are not actually doorframes, just holes cut in walls. Uhhhhh.

Good to know you're alright!

They actually evacuated the building for 30 minutes (which makes sense, given that East Coast buildings are not made to withstand earthquakes). No injuries and no damage either at work or home. Hope your place came though just as well.

I'm in MS so I'm just waiting for the New Madrid to act up again, at which point I will run outside, as that is safer than my house.

Who am I?
